The European Union is reviewing the GAR-SI Sahel initiative, through which it funded and trained reaction squads in six African countries to tackle terrorism and trafficking. Although the programme is to be beefed up in Senegal, Mauritania and Niger, Brussels plans to axe it in Mali, Burkina Faso and Chad.
