Mota cousins draw on African networks to keep Mota-Engil on top

Carlos Mota Santos and his cousin Manuel António Mota, the duo at the helm of the construction giant, can count on an experienced team and their extensive network of partners to win new contracts in Africa.

Carlos Mota Santos became CEO of Mota-Engil a year ago at the age of 44. The Portuguese-Chinese construction group, of which the Mota family owns 40% and China Communications Construction Co (CCCC) owns 32% (AI, 11/10/23), is present in 14 African countries. It was established in 1946 and has been involved in Angola since its foundation.
