Macron engineers rapprochement between Déby family and Merkel
Germany has been highly critical in recent years of N'Djamena and the Déby regime, but in late September it shifted its foreign policy to supporting the transition process, and Angela Merkel has even spoken by telephone with Mahamat Idriss Déby. The change in attitude has much to do with the lobbying of Emmanuel Macron, who has directly raised the subject with the chancellor in recent weeks.
