Environment minister Eve Bazaiba at loggerheads with Congo's forestry barons
Under pressure from international backers, environment minister Bazaiba is trying to spruce up DRC's forestry sector, long left to its own devices. A dozen Chinese, Congolese and European companies are in breach of existing regulations. But Kinshasa is dragging its feet before terminating the permits of the industry's politically well-connected players, at the risk of offending international partners.
