Energy, critical minerals: the disjointed future of Malagasy-French projects

Emmanuel Macron's visit to Madagascar led to the signing of an energy sector agreement and the possibility of a partnership for the supply of critical minerals. Neither of these so-called "strategic" deals is however close to seeing any results.

The Central African president will begin a visit to Brussels in early June, with talks planned on infrastructure investment and civil society funding – as well as the delicate case of a detained researcher.
