Gécamines backfill project in Lualaba attracts keen interest

The mining entrepreneur Joseph Kazibaziba has launched a pilot project in the Katangese province to exploit artificial deposits in order to transform them into copper cathodes. Close to the government, he has hired a stepdaughter of a presidential adviser to help his mission along.

Hundreds of Ethiopian soldiers from Tigray were deployed in peace missions in Sudan and South Sudan at the turn of this decade. But civil wars, first in their native region and then in Sudan, have prevented their return home, and they have still not received payment for their two-year mission.
