Igor Morozov heads AFROCOM, an organisation that aims to facilitate Russian companies' access to African markets. He is increasingly present on the continent, making regular trips and waging an aggressive commercial diplomacy there.

Following a call between Cameroonian President Paul Biya and the Swiss President Ignazio Cassisin in early September, Cameroon's Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute met via video conference with Anglophone leaders of the diaspora. However, this unprecedented step does not necessarily bode well for the establishment of new negotiations.

On a recent trip to the US capital, the South African head of state reiterated his strong opposition to plans to sanction African countries trading with Russia. He believes his calls have been heard.
