Maputo's failure to pay Kigali's security bill alarms oil majors

The Rwanda Defence Force has been part of Mozambique's counterinsurgency in northern Cabo Delgado since 2021. TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil, whose gas projects rely on this support, are doing all they can to ensure Maputo resumes paying for it.

A platform bringing together opposition leaders from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and elsewhere in the region is being set up to exert influence on the international stage and secure the release of imprisoned officials and candidates prevented from standing in elections.
