Dakar and Paris seek common ground on future military cooperation

Eight months after the handover of France's last military bases in the country, French and Senegalese officials are engaged in low-key negotiations aimed at renewing their defence agreements. The issue is expected to feature on the agenda of the next intergovernmental seminar, although its date remains uncertain.

The head of state's former rival has regained a highly restricted form of freedom, thanks to Tanzania's ruling party, which he has close ties with. Évariste Ndayishimiye is seeking to calm divisions in his party and broaden support in the run-up to next year's elections.

Ahead of his visit scheduled for 2 and 3 April, Nicolas Forissier is planning a trip with a strong focus on football. A meeting between Philippe Diallo, head of the French Football Federation, and his Moroccan counterpart Fouzi Lekjaâ is expected to be on the agenda.
