The Organisation of African First Ladies, originally launched to fight AIDS, planned in 2019 to add development to its remit. But Covid-19 put a stop to that project. Its new president, the Namibian first lady Monica Geingos, is now hoping to find new impetus, as another organisation led by Nigeria's Aisha Buhari is trying to compete with it.

Generally kept at arm's length on account of his political ambitions, in early July Djibouti's finance minister Ilyas Moussa Dawaleh inherited the tricky task of overseeing the partial privatisation of Djibouti Telecom, under the close supervision of the president's allies.
