Damages paid to Suez Canal Authority by Ever Given's insurers kept secret

In July 2021, four months after the blocking of the Suez Canal by the Ever Given, Egypt received damages after finally agreeing to set the container ship free. The authorities in Cairo preferred, however, not to reveal the heavily reduced amount of compensation paid.

The new president William Ruto has secretly decided to put an end to the monopoly enjoyed by Autoport Freight Terminals Ltd, a company owned by Ali Hassan Joho, who is thus paying the price for giving financial support to defeated presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
