Former interior minister Fathi Bachagha, whom the eastern House of Representatives elected as prime minister earlier this month, should find solid support in Tripoli to ensure the resignation of the incumbent Abdelhamid Dabaiba. Failing that, Libya could again end up with two rival executives.

Central African president Faustin Archange Touadéra has been making repeated appeals to Paris in recent days with a view to meeting with Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the European Union-African Union summit. For the moment, the French government is politely stalling for time.

After Rabat failed to react to his selection a year ago as Germany's ambassador to Morocco, an appointment designed to resolve a diplomatic crisis, Thomas Zahneisen was reassigned to a different posting. But now he's due to go to the kingdom after all and to organise the king's visit to Berlin.
