The European aristocratic von Pezold family seem to be on the cusp of success in their efforts to reclaim more than $200m of state compensation for agricultural land expropriated during the Mugabe era. Their success in this mission would consolidate their dominant position in Zimbabwean agriculture but also, more widely, in southern Africa.

Regime uses carrot and stick to bring media to heel

Online media is eagerly awaiting the promised creation of a dedicated advertising agency and the fresh revenues that will come with it. Control of the agency is being fought over, however, by President Tebboune and communication minister Ammar Belhimer, who is also preparing to submit two media reform bills to the National Assembly, which Africa Intelligence has consulted.
