The president has terminated the contract of French expert Jean-Charles Solon, who had been in charge of the powerful presidential interception and surveillance centre in Libreville for 13 years. For the first time, a senior Gabonese intelligence official will take over the organisation's leadership.

Donald Trump's Africa adviser is considering a deal that would allow both ruling factions in Libya to remain in place and be recognised as legitimate. The aim is to share power within a reunified government whose mandate would not require any sort of vote.

Egypt has intensified its support for Abdel Fattah al-Burhan's regular army since its defeat in El Fasher in October. The war in Iran offers the Sudanese Armed Forces commander a decisive opportunity to launch an offensive in western Sudan, with the strategic support of his allies.
