A confidential report by EY highlighted financial mangement deficiencies at Mozambique's main pro-democracy NGO, then headed by Ericino de Salema. It put a dent in Salema's NGO career, but he has bounced back as a political crisis communications guru, thanks to his vast network in the country's media.

The head of the 30 September putsch has only a limited support within the military apparatus and is already encountering mistrust among powerful senior officers. He wants to designate a new president of the transition and has increasingly been engaging in discreet consultations on the matter.

On 27 September, the East African Court of Justice decided to give itself more time to deliver its judgment in a case involving nominations made by Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni just after he was re-elected in 2021.
