He presented himself as a genius inventor, a self-made man and a philanthropic investor. Storm clouds have however been gathering over Mwale, the US-Kenyan businessman who vowed to revolutionise healthcare in Africa but whose pharaonic scheme has swallowed up tens of millions of dollars with few tangible results.

Guinea's courts have gone back on their initial decision to allow Ibrahima Kassory Fofana to seek medical treatment abroad. This turnaround comes as General Doumbouya has ordered that the former prime minster be brought to trial for misappropriation of public funds before 15 January.
